The Beginning

Today is the 14th year anniversary of my coming to America. I will try to keep this blog that will include the story of my travels. I hope to keep it going for a while, although I am not sure I can sustain the enthusiasm very l0ng.

Today I taught my first double class. There are 14 people in the first group and 24 in the second. I noticed that the second time around I was much shorter then the first time. I talked to Kathy, who quit her regular job to teach. On Friday, I received my first invitation to an interview. It is with the university of El Paso in Texas. I was so excited, I couldn't sleep that night.

My first job interview. The questions were:
1. What research will you do if you come here
2. What type of equipment do you need?
2. Do you have grant writing experience?
3. What classes would you like to teach?
4. Do you have mentoring experience?
5. What will it take to bring you here?
I also had to ask questions about the members of the committee. I looked up their CVs, and asked questions about their last publications and grants.
